Wireman

Procedures for Application of Competency Examination for Certified Wireman

Applicants for the above examinations should be made online via the ECOS system at the Energy Commission’s website (www.st.gov.my)

Requirements for Competency Examination for Certified Wireman

(Regulation 50, Electricity Regulations 1994 and its amendments)

Single Phase Wireman (PW1)
  1. A Malaysian citizen.
  2. Age not less than 18 years.
  3. Minimum educational qualification - completed Form Five.
  4. Possess two years working experience in electrical wiring with an Electrical Contractor or a Private Wiring Unit registered with the Energy Commission.
  5. Able to speak and write in Bahasa Malaysia.
  6. Possess sufficient knowledge and skill in wiring for any installation.
  7. Possess sufficient knowledge of first aid, resuscitation and treatment electrical shock.
  8. Posses sufficient knowledge of the Electricity Supply Act  1990 and its regulations.
Exemption:
  1. Minimum educational qualification - completed Form Five.
  2. Exempted from theoretical, practical and oral examination:
    a) Possess intermediate or level 2 Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) certificate;
    b) Possess SKM for a period of 1 year and at least 1 year working experience with an Electrical Contractor who is registered with the Energy Commission after holding SKM for a period of 1 year.
  3. Any candidate eligible to get an exemption would only be conferred as certified single phase wireman without testing endorsement (PW1).
  4. Any candidate interested to get a certification for Competency of Wireman with testing endorsement (PW2) should sit for an oral examination. If fail, the candidate would only be conferred as a certified single phase wireman without testing endorsement (PW1).
  5. Any candidate interested to sit for a wireman examination with testing endorsement (PW2) should pay fee as below:
    a) examination fee (RM50.00); and
    b) testing endorsement examination fee (RM50.00).
Three Phase Wireman (PW3)
  1. Requirements are as follows:-
    a) Possess certificate for Single Phase Wireman Competency (PW1/PW2) for at least 1 year from the date of issuance;
    b) At least 1 year working experience in electrical wiring with an electrical contractor/private wiring unit registered with the Energy Commission or working with Government Department/Agency and possess complete log book based on working  experience;
    c) Certificate for Single Phase Wireman Competency (PW1/PW2) should be registered with the Energy Commission.  
  2. Candidate who passed Three Phase Wireman Competency  Examination (PW3) and posses Certificate of Single Phase Wiremen with testing endorsement (PW2) qualify to get a Certificate of Three Phase Wireman Competency with testing endorsement (PW4), subject to settlement of the examination fee.
